Joshua 4 – Bible in a Year

By No Comments3 min read

Joshua 4-9. It has always been ‘by the Spirit’. I think this is where a lot of people miss out on the possibilities that are with God.

In these chapters, I’m watching them navigate this principle. God directs, when they obey its triumphant. When they take matters into their own hands, consequences.

Joshua 4-9, Bible in a Year, Day 34

Joshua 4

God wants you to walk WITH him in all things. Just because he told someone to do something once does not mean it’s going to work the same for you.

How many times have I heard Christians say they are going to walk around things like Joshua? Honestly … do you think it was the walking around praying that got the results? No, it was the obedience to the direction of the spirit of God.

Joshua 5

Joshua 5 is a shift in seasons for them.

The reproach of Egypt is rolled away, the manna stops and the ‘Captain of the Lord of Hosts’ stands in front of Joshua ……this place is holy!

Joshua 6-9

Joshua 6…and the Lord said to Joshua….

What is going on here?

The eternal God is doing eternal stuff. The promises, the oath, the covenant – that is what is being perpetuated.

And the seriousness to the people who transgress the covenant.

What are our consequences for transgressing the new covenant with Christ? Do we think God just looks the other way and says no problem? 🤔

It has ALWAYS been by his Spirit.

Always.

Thank God for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, he was spread abroad for all mankind. As it says in Thessalonians ‘until he that letteth will let’! (Work out that maths equation!!)

Joshua is impressive. What a leader.

9:14 he writes out ALL the law of Moses and rereads it to the people. ✍️

Today, if you read more than one verse people are already yawning, wanting to head off for coffee or the beach.

But they were reminding themselves of what it would take to get those promises.

The trouble was, again, when they ‘asked NOT counsel of the Lord…..🙄

The King James says the men worked ‘wilily’ to trick them – what does that remind you of??????? 🔁

Ephesians 6:11?????

If we don’t WALK with God we are toast.

Love the Lord your God with ALL!
