Deuteronomy 20 – Bible in a Year

By No Comments2 min read

Deuteronomy 20 to 27! Moses is making the laws public, building a society, trying to teach these people values, respect, dealings with each other, offerings, things that get the label ‘cursed’. So much here.

I keep thinking of how Paul said the law was a schoolmaster to bring us to Christ!

It’s so true.

Deuteronomy 20-27, Bible in a Year, Day 31

Deuteronomy 20

But we see principles of life and what we know about being Gods .. such as,

‘For the Lord your God is he that goes with you, to fight for you against your enemies to save you’ Deut 20:4

Just before he’s been saying ‘let not your hearts faint, fear not, and do not tremble, neither be ye terrified because of them’

Stuff to remember! Train your mind to believe! Discipline yourself in these spiritual ways.

The Ammonites come up, with the Moabites, God has an ongoing problem with these (Deut 23:4-5) – and Balaam comes up again!! Remember what God said to Abraham in Gen 15?????

Do you think things are forgotten?

No.

This is historical stuff!

And then.. even worse…. He mentions Amalek!

These guys are going to be ‘blotted out’! Become an Enemy of God look out!! (Deut 25:17-19). That is because of what happened in Exodus 17:8, remember?

But I love how Moses brings it into focus, reminds them, how God saved them, with an outstretched arm, with great terribleness, and with signs and wonders….. (26:8-9)🙌

This God is your God, is my God. Still the same but now he has been revealed in Christ! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Still in power, still in signs…

It’s like a maths equation that is complicated and beautiful.

No wonder Jesus said ask, seek, knock.

You have to search for the treasures, you have to apply yourself to learn, to think, to consider, to do…..
